Home!

                                                       (the view from our balcony)

We are home! We have unpacked, and I have to say that taking my clothes out of the suitcase and putting them on hangers and in nice rows in the closet was very satisfying.  Our apartment is much better than expected.  I did a little research on what to expect from a typical chinese apartment since we had no pictures or any idea what we would have to work with...but it's nice!  It's quite a bit larger than our apartment in Saint Paul.  I must say the space is a bit cold feeling...it doesn't have that cozy, homey feel that our old apartment had.  I will miss our first apartment a lot, we had an awesome first year of marriage there.
Our bathroom....I was so incredibly happy to not see a squatty potty!  If you don't know what that is, look it up.  Squatty potties are the typical style toilet you will find in china.
My kitchen...no oven.  I knew there wouldn't be one, Chinese people almost never have ovens at home. But still I hoped that somehow.... oh well.  It's really nice otherwise.
The city we live in is home to Hengdian World Studios, the world's largest outdoor film shooting bases.  You have very likely seen the grounds of these studios in movies like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, and Hero with Jet li.  Also with the studios they have an amusement park, a la Universal Studios.  Hengdian is known in China as "Chinawood" for their fast growing entertainment industry.  The picture above is from a show in town, and the picture below is from the waterpark.  It's a funny little town, outside of these extravagant studios and shows....the rest of the town is pretty country and rural.  It's experiencing growth so quickly and it makes the town really interesting to explore and see old and new china trying to merge.
So we have had a few days now to explore the town, and I can tell we are going to have a great year here.  I can see that not everything is going to be easy and perfect, it will definitely be a challenge at times, but I am prepared for that and so excited for this year!
