Leaving Home

Choosing to move was surprisingly easy.  We made the decision to leave our comfortable Saint Paul apartment and move to China in a matter of 3 days, we were very excited and a little scared..but mostly it was something we just couldn't pass up.  From the point we made that decision, we worked steadfastly to get all our matters in order, starting with leaving our apartment early to live out of suitcases in our families and friend’s homes for nearly two months.  The last few weeks have been particularly difficult as we spent no more than 2 or 3 days in the same city before we packed up and went somewhere else. Being constantly in a state of motion has been incredibly fun but so exhausting.

Before flying to Shanghai we went to San Francisco to see my brother in Monterey, he was on his break from school the same week we happened to be passing through so my parents came out as well and we got to have a nice lil family vacation.  San Francisco and Monterey are gorgeous.  I would love to live there, the weather was about 70, dry, and overcast the majority of the time we were there.  Perfect fall weather, except without the fall part.  I love it.  I would have enjoyed it a lot more if I didn’t catch an awful cold when we first landed, leaving me in sort of a haze the whole time.  Whatever, stupid cold.  It was still a great vacation.

Tim and I are going to miss everybody so much.  Three of my best friends are having major life moments while I am gone and I will miss all of these things.  Savannah is getting married, Katie is having her first child any day now, and Angie is moving to Finland this winter.  Tim and I mentioned that even living in Saint Paul is far enough away where we still don’t see people as much as we would like to, life and work gets in the way and the distance is just great enough to prevent us from making it to a lot of things, but these are three things that I would not have missed if I had still been in Minnesota.  Good luck to you three, I so wish I could be there!  We will miss our families, both my parents, the entire extended family and the Baias’s have been wonderful.  We know it’s hard for you to see us leaving and to not know what’s ahead.  It’s hard for us to leave you too. As easy as it was to make the decision to move, it was difficult to leave all our family and friends.  If we could we would take you all with us.  We love you, and thanks for all of your love and support, it really means the world to us.
