Fuxing Park just stole my heart, our day here and in the next door French Concession were just dreamy. Fuxing park was just...I don't know how to describe it but it felt so special. First of all it was quite pretty, but more than that, you could just feel love and kindness there. Families spread out all over having picnics and flying kites. Old men gathering to play chess while the ladies dance together, only to steal their husbands away from the game for her favorite waltz, to which he gladly obliged. Just people watching in Fuxing Park is a great way to spend the day, it felt very old world in the sense that people weren't walking around texting or playing on their i-phones as you see just about anywhere else. Everyone was simply enjoying the company of their loved ones. I love it.
Adding to this already great day, we had lunch in the French Concession at The Funky Chicken, Tim and I split 1/2 rotisserie chicken with garlic mashed potatoes and roasted portabella mushrooms. At home this would just be a good lunch, here...since we have not eaten anything but chinese food for the last month and a half...it was heavenly. So this is interesting, it seems the no religion rules in China have relaxed quite a lot. They have had churches in the past but they used to check passports at the door and if you were Chinese, you aren't allowed in. Also Bibles weren't allowed and things were all very hush-hush. We were curious and just walked right into this church, no gaurds or anything, and clearly the Chinese are allowed in now, there was a group singing some hyms in Chinese at the front of the church. Bibles were plentifully stacked in the isles, waiting to be cracked open. What else is changing in China? Just about everything.
This was in Fuxing Park, this was so cute the little kids could paddle these little boats around and the parents were holding the end of the string and just pull them back when, say, this adorable lil guy wants to break through into the open water.
Cat lady! There are about 30 cats (probably more) in Fuxing park, most of them are all really nice, clean, well fed park cats. All following around this woman who walks around the park dropping pieces of food for them. In America people feed the park squirrels or pigeons....in Fuxing park you feed the cats!
Best coffee we have found so far in China. I like to be pleasantly surprised.
The old men in China are so cute. They sit around and play chess looking all old-man stylish. I love it.
This picture just brings me so much joy...the chinese love to dance, if there is music with a good tempo playing and room to dance, they will grab a partner and dance. Or if they don't have a partner they will just hold their arms up and pretend to have a partner. This was one of the sweetest scenes I have ever seen, it was just so free and joyful and loving. :) (click the link below to watch the video of the dancing, it's so cute. And watch the man in the brown suit! I love him!)
