For the National Holiday Tim and I decided to blow a bunch of money on a lil vacation to Shanghai. It was a great little break from typical China and the small town we live in. Shanghai is quite western in many ways and really felt like home. We found an international grocery store and I was able to stock up on butter, cheese, jam, olive oil, smoked tobasco sauce, olives, italian salami, bacon, pesto . . . it's the small things here that make a big difference in being comfortable and making you feel at home. Having butter in my fridge, that makes China feel a bit more like home. And besides this awesome western grocery buying spree, the trip was really great. Last time we were in Shanghai it was all very new and exciting and we wanted to see all the major sites that scream YOU ARE IN CHINA! And that was great but it was a whole lot to see and it all happened so fast. This time were much more leisurely, spending time sucking down coffee, inhaling fine chocolate and buying every piece of crunchy french bread or chunk of brie we could find. It was spectacular. We hung out in Art galleries and in the French Quarter, pretending to be in Europe. We ate mexican food, we talked to any Western store or restaurant owner and swapped stories. It was a good time.

Here's a great sculpture from one of the modern art galleries. Tim's the art buff so hes gonna do the official blog entry about the galleries sometime soon ( hopefully) so this picture is just a teaser :) By the way, the end of the cannon says "Made in China" of course.
In Pu Dong, looking for the Apple store...
Found the apple store, pretty much the coolest apple store entry ever. The store is underground, so there is a winding staircase down into the store below the icon. The staircase was transparent too so it was a little freaky and I tripped on it twice, haha.
